NOT A GOOD GOODBYE CHESTER BENNINGTON

CHESTER BENNINGTON

"You better have some place to go  Cause you can't come back around here  Good goodbye"

This is for all the 90’s kids who grew up listening to Linkin Park. This is for all those who wanted to own an electric guitar. This is for all those who fell in love with rock music.

CHESTER BENNINGTON you will be missed!

His tragic suicide at the age of 41 is utterly sad. "In the end it doesn’t even matter" that’s what he said in one of his songs but it does matter a lot. It is still unbelievable to learn the fact that Bennington is no more, he who managed to make all the 90s kids fall in love with rock music. He was the one who made us curious to know more about electric guitar. He was the one to ‘bleed it out’ and today he became so 'numb' that he cannot even feel us anymore!

He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on 20th march 1976. He was son to a detective police officer and a nurse. Bennington had a tragic childhood. He was sexually abused at the age of 7 by one of his older male friend and it continued till his early teens. At the age of 11 his parents got separated adding fuel to his depression. It all spiralled leading to addiction to LSD, marijuana and opium.

He revealed in an interview with the Kerrang magazine that “It escalated from a touchy, curious, ‘what does this thing do’ into full-on, crazy violations. I was getting beaten up and being forced to do things I didn’t want to do. It destroyed my self-confidence.”

He suffered in painful silence for six years.

“I didn’t want people to think I was gay or that I was lying,” he confessed. “It was a horrible experience.”
The divorce of his parents made it worse. His father gained his custody and was forced to work for longer hours given his profession of a detective thus leaving Chester alone for hours.

He also added: “It was an awful time. I hated everybody in my family: I felt abandoned by my mom, my dad was not very emotionally stable then, and there was no-one I could turn to – at least that’s how my young mind felt.”

To add to everything he was physically bullied in school as well for being skinny and different. the turmoil threw him into depression and anxiety and gave him suicidal thoughts. To evade such thoughts he started writing lyrics, poems and drawing or sketching. He was inspired by bands like Depeche Mode and Stone Temple Pilot.

At 17 he moved with his mother and lived his life with her. She grounded him after learning about his addiction to drugs.

To become successful and strong you need to feel the pain, that’s what he had. He suffered all the pain and became so numb that he hanged himself on 20th June 2017 in his apartment. May be that pain became so unbearable that he had to leave us to set himself free!
