Tean India recently suffered a major setback when Anil Kumble resigned from his position post which BCCI decided to fill up the vacancy.

Lot of big names came through for the extremely revered title. The Indian board received ten resumes from talented cricketers around the world namley, Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Phil Simmons, Lalchand Rajput, Lance Klusener, Rakesh Sharma, Dodda Ganesh, Richard Pybus and Upendranath Bramhachari. Out of the ten, the BCCI shortlisted Shastri, Sehwag, Moody, Simmons, Rajput and Pybus for the interview.
The Cricket Advisory Committee which includes VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly interviewed 5 candidates as the West Indies cricketer Phil Simmons wasn't available for the interview. The committee's objective for selection was to focus on bigger picture, World Cup 2019. In light of that the board narrowed their decision down to Ravi Shastri as he has been Team India's director from their tour of England in 2014 to 2016 World Cup T20. To add to the same he has good equation with the captain Virat Kohli ad it seems as a necessity in the current scenario. Sachin Tendulkar joined the interview through video conference even Ravi Shastri gave the interview through video conference as he was in UK. After the interview it was said that the final decision will be taken as soon as Virat Kohli arrives India.

Also BCCI decided that this time the coach will have a contract for two years keeping in mind 2019 World Cup. Later Ravi Shastri was declared as the Head Coach of Team India along with Zaheer Khan as the bowling consultant and Rahul Dravid as the Batting consultant. With the appointment of the new coach the Indian Team can heave a sigh of relief as the uncertainty is over. The primary focus for Ravi Shastri should be on the test series in Sri Lanka which Begins from 26th July. We all hope that he proves to be an asset to the team and is a harbinger of lot of wins for the country.
