Victoria and Abdul begins with a slide saying “Based on true events...mostly”. It makes you wonder if the real Queen Victoria was as sassy as, Judi Dench portrays her character in the movie. Nonetheless, the Queen definitely owned her reign.
Remember how in school when your class teacher had a favourite student, the one she favoured so
secretly everyone hated him? Yeah, this is that kind of a story.
Judi Dench, plays Queen Victoria, a troubled old woman with a vast empire to rule. She finds herself outliving everyone she cared for. Happiness and contentment seems nowhere to be seen until a servant of an Indian origin catches her attention. Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal)  is a character written, to be "too good to be true". Over the time, Queen grows a fond attachment towards Abdul and
sees a trusted confidante in him as he teaches her Urdu and The Quran. The envious members of the Royal Court, shackled by the hierarchy and power were deemed to despise a servant, when undue privileges were showered on him. Everyone including her own children didn’t see her behaviour appropriate and threatened that she would be named insane.
A little less politics than expected but a little more humour makes the storyline focus its attention on the controversial relationship between Queen Victoria and Abdul Karim. He was later given the title of Munshi, by the Queen. The historian who wrote the movie’s source text was the one who unearthed the diary of Hafiz Mohammed Abdul Karim, but the again the movie is mostly true, not completely. The enchanting regime of the British Empire is well suited watch for this week!

What an amazing movie, Judi is as usual, such a wonderful actress portraying Queen Victoria once again. The story line is fantastic and it flows beautifully. This would have to be the best movie for me this year. I love how they made this film so funny, and yet so touching. I laughed and I cried all the way through.
