Raag Desh (2017)


The struggle for our nation’s freedom is attributed to countless unsung heroes. Those who stood against the ruthless British regime sucking resources from our country. The movie highlights the instance that paved the way for India’s freedom. The entire movie is based on inception of Indian National Army done by the valiant and beloved freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

The coalition of the brewing mutinies led to the beginning of the war against the slavery inflicted by the Imperial regime. Raag Desh narrates the story of these heroes namely Maj. Gen. Shahnawaaz, Khan (Kunal Kapoor), Lt. Col. Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon (Amit Sadh) and Col. Prem Sahgal (Mohit Marwah), the three officers of Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army. Their insurgency to revoke British rule from India got them on trial for conspiracy and treason. The movie is a spectacular display of their bravery, patriotism and tireless efforts was a major stepping stone for the nationwide uprising against the britishers. The trial was held at Red Fort in Delhi and they were known as Red Fort trials in 1945.

We all are well aware of those days when India was under the clutches of British. Movies like Raag Desh revive the forgotten stories of the martyrs who willingly sacrificed everything for the country we live in today. Tigmanshu Dhulia the National Award Winning Director has put in tremendous efforts and research to make this movie. It is a blend of stories of Subhash Chandra Bose and the three decorated officers from INA and how it turned to be a sign of ‘Unity In Diversity’ against the British Government two years before the Independence. All the facts and figures regarding the Indian Army is explained with sincere diligence.
