The film whose name was enough to create controveries finally hit the boxoffice on 22nd July. Lipstick under my burkha is a 'no second thought given must watch' movie. It delves into those latent realms of womanhood that society knowingly ignores. The  movie circles the silent attrocities done on women by this deeply woven patriarchal society. The name of the movie is metaphorical in nature symbolizing the deep red rebellion that goes inside every woman trapped in a misogynst cage. The dogamtic traditions have chained and stained the desires that have the right to exist and breathe freely.
It is a women-centric film directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Prakash Jha. It revolves around 4 small town women who have their own hidden lives contrary to their real existence.
They all live in different parts of a dilapidated mansion owned by Usha (Ratna Pathak Shah), a 55 year old widow and who reads Hindi erotica and lusts her muscular swimming coach. Leela is a beautician (Aahana Kumra), extremely ambitious girl who knows how to express herself infront of her boyfriend. Rehana (Plabita Borthakur)  is a college student who feels suffocated in her orthodox tailor family and comes out of her burkha as soon as she steps out of the house. Shirin (Konkona Sen Sharmaz)  is a saleswoman who is annoyed with her unloving husband who believes in the ideology that woman are only good enough to bear children and warm their husbands' bed.
All four of them are in a pertual fight against their restricted boundaries. They want to take their burkhas off themselves from every nook and corner of their life be it physical, social or cultural. This is what is best about the movie that these four women are bold enough to come out of their conflicted lives.
This movies depicts the women who live outside India’s metropolitan cities encumbered in the traditional chaos. The performance of all the four actors has given a new direction to the film and will surely make this movie a success.

If you go in with mediocre expectations the movie is an entertainer for your weekend!
