Synopsis
Indu Sarkar is an Indian political drama film which is co-written, co-produced and directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. The film is a based on the on a historical landmark that shattered India from within. The interim of emergency that took place from 1975-1977 declared by Indra Gandhi, the then Prime Minister was the offset of a course of ghastly atrocities on civil rights. But Madhur Bhandharkar failed to contain the brutal realism of the darkest phase of Indian Independence and has made the movie with clichés that surround bollywood. The film story is said to be 70% fictional and 30% true.
The protagonist Indu is an orphan and aspires to become a poet. Her stammer issues augmented her unfortunate life as no family that came to orphanage wanted to adopt her. Nevertheless, she finds someone who is able to see her beyond her stammering and gets married to him. Naveen Sarkar is a government officer seeking to take advantage of the emergency.
The government meanwhile is forcing eviction, demolition of slums and eroding civil rights. Under the strict circumstances, Indu accidentally lands in a Turkman slum in Delhi while it was being demolished. She rescued two children and brought them home. While searching for their parents Indu got to know that they are dead and were declared as Naxalites by the government. Naveen on the other hand is unwilling to give those children shelter in his home. He doesn't want to fight against the system. All this follows a brawl between Indu and Naveen and leaving Indu to choose between him and children.
The film has a good story and mostly observes Indu from close quarters, with the emergency in the backdrop. This is perhaps Kirti Kulhari best performance.

Indu Sarkar could have been more compact & sharp. But a must watch for this generation who shout 'emergency' at the drop of a hat these days

Karma is a b**ch. For all his atrocities during the Emergency, Sanjay Gandhi's punishment is to be portrayed by @NeilNMukesh #InduSarkar
