Synopsis

Inspired by a novel, Hichki is a story of Naina Mathur, a single girl of Mumbai city born with Tourette’s syndrome a neurological disorder and aspires to be a teacher. Naina’s situation is presented with empathy and her spirit and determination feel authentic and optimistic.

Hichki could be a movie about making us aware of Tourette's syndrome or it could about being sympathetic to people suffering from these problems but mostly it was a success story of a girl who wanted to be a teacher and after facing many rejections she finally got her chance in a prestigious institution in Mumbai.

Like her condition wasn’t enough for naina as she had to face Mr. Wadia a posh teacher who handles 9A, a class of all model students and thinks that 9F (naina’s class) was municipal garbage and it was difficult for her to teach a class full of tough rebellious slum children but she took on the challenge and when the school administration has given up on these kids, she used her unorthodox and eccentric ways to teach them.

The movie has a bunch of lumps in your throat moments and some emotional times like the slum parents talking about their dreams for their children, teachers taking the blame for the kid's misdemeanours.

The writing of the movie was literal and predictable and is overstuffed with good intentions and multiple messages.

The protagonist, Rani Mukerji gave a solid and sincere performance and portrayed her character with great sensitivity. The kids were real gems and Neeraj Kabi's performance as Mr Wadia is also appraisable.

Everything ties up neatly at the end of this genuinely earnest film made with heart.
